Summer of Play @ National Mining Museum Scotland

National Mining Museum Scotland is delighted to be taking part in this national campaign to help support our local children and young people’s wellbeing over summer.

Summer of Play activities will take place every Friday over the school summer holidays. They will kick-off with Bubble Soccer on Friday 16th July, with special thanks to Newtongrange Star FC for hosting.   The Museum’s outdoor green spaces will be taken over for kite flying, music and movement classes for babies and toddlers, pirate adventures, and even a teddy bear’s picnic!  All our activities were designed for children and young people to have fun outdoors with their family and friends.  The best bit, every activity is completely free of charge and every child or young person will receive a snack/lunch and juice as well.

  • 16th July | Bubble Soccer (ages 8-12)
  • 23rd July | Kite flying (age 7+)
  • 30th July | Jo Jingles (ages 3mo-5yo)
  • 6th August | Pirates Ahoy! (age 6+)
  • 13th August | Teddy bear's picnic (all ages)

To combat holiday hunger, at each activity snacks or a packed lunch with juice will also be provided for each child/young person. NMMS’s summer of play programme is supported by Museum Galleries Scotland. So, come along to the Mining Museum this summer for a great day out – book your place now!

This activity has been funded by Museums Galleries Scotland as part of the Scottish Government’s Get into Summer programme, supporting opportunities for children and young people to socialise, play and reconnect this summer.
