Mauricewood Devils Book Cover

maurice wood devils

The year is 1889.  When a fire tears through the Mauricewood coal pit there is no escape.  Of the 65 men working, only 2 survive.  Many of the bodies will not be recovered for months. Join author Dorothy Alexander on Thursday 24th November to hear Martha and Jess's story in her debut novel - The Mauricewood Devils.  Dorothy tells of her personal connection which sparked her inspiration for this emotive and gripping tribute to resilience and courage in the face of utter catastrophe, based on true events, original source material and her own family history. Dorothy sold out at the Edinburgh International Book Festival earlier this year and National Mining Museum Scotland is delighted to host this evening as part of Book Week Scotland 2016.  Wine and refreshments will be provided and Dorothy will be available for book signing during the event.  Her book will be for sale from the museum shop.
