Plaster cast of two herings on one plinth. Made by Frank Buckland. Buckland was a keen naturalist, prolific writer, campaigner against river pollution, researcher on fish-culture and fish farming and was appointed Inspector of Fisheries in 1867. In 1865, he established the UK's first fisheries musem, the Museum of Economic Fish Culture in South Kensington, London. Late Victorian plaster fish casts are very specialised objects and this collection has been deemed to be of international significance.
