On 14th May 1945 the German U-Boat U-2326 surrendered in Dundee. At the time Unicorn was the base ship for the Naval Officer in Charge in the city, as part of the surrender the German officers Leutnant Karl Bertsch and Oberleutnant Karl Jobst handed in their naval dirks, which are still in the museum’s collection, to Captain WF Keay of the RNVR. Both officers were then interrogated and in inspection of the U Boat was carried out by Lieutenant PDC Bennett of HMS Ultimatum who noted that “The cleanliness of the boat leaves a lot to be desired”.
