- Description
A Letter to Robert Aitchison's father from a Mr Smythe in Durban, South Africa.
It details how Robert was a guest of the family in Durban along with some comrades of his whilst his ships were collecting provisions, assumingly before heading to Crete. He mentions that 'Robin's' "rosy cheeks were quite in contrast to the average sin-tanned South Africans".
The letter ends with "Anyway, I hope this damned war is soon over and that Robin returns safely." This was sent mere months before Robert Aitchison was captured on Crete and taken Prisoner of War.
