Description

Gartsherrie Works Co-op workers. Despite being called a co-op, it operated as a company store by iron masters William Baird & Co. Also known as truck shops, owners paid their workers in tokens that could only be used in them. Some employers used their stores to earn more profit at the expense of the workers. Many of them sold poor quality goods at excessive prices and encouraged people to buy goods on credit.
