Women’s Work in Victorian Dundee: Poetry, Press and Politics

women's words walk

Part of Dundee Women’s Festival

This talk will focus on the history of working women writers from Dundee and surrounding areas, as recovered in Professor Blair’s new anthology of Dundee-based newspaper verse, The Poets of the People’s Journal. Blair will read and discuss engaging and little-known poems and letters to explore women’s lively and often controversial engagements with ‘Victorian values’, politics, and the literary culture of the Dundee press, and how the press represented working women in the city.
