Rail: For tickets and up to date railway timetables, please visit Scotrail or Trainline. The Museum is five minutes’ walk from Irvine Railway Station

Road: From the A77 take the A71 and follow the brown signs to the Harbourside and the Maritime Museum. FREE PARKING.

Bus: Kilwinning, Irvine and Kilmarnock, No.585 Ayr, Irvine, Greenock, X34 Irvine, Beith and Glasgow and the 14A Service from Troon all have convenient bus stops nearby.

Sea: We have our own pontoon in Irvine harbour where visitors can moor. Pre-booking is essential by emailing visitorservices@scotmaritime.org.uk

Bicycle: We have cycle racks as well as a full bike maintenance kit within our boatshop. On route 7 of the National Cycle Network.

Rail – Take the Edinburgh to Helensburgh Central train, get off at Dumbarton Central, and the museum is five minutes from the station. For tickets and up to date railway timetables, please visit Scotrail or Trainline.

Road – Use Postcode G82 IQS for satellite navigation systems; or follow signs from Glasgow, take A82 Great Western Road, then A814 sign posted Dumbarton road. Follow brown tourist signs at roundabouts, left on Church Street and again left onto Castle street.

Bicycle – There are various cycle routes passing Dumbarton, including National Cycle Network Route 7

Scottish Maritime Museum

The Scottish Maritime Museum holds an important; nationally recognised and varied collection of historic ships, artefacts, shipbuilding machinery, machine tools, small vessels, canoes, lifeboats and other fascinating personal items. The Scottish Maritime Museum also has an ambitious three year programme to create an art collection of national significance.

This growing art collection, which includes works by George Wyllie, Francis Cadell, Benno Schotz and Tom McKendrick, brings an exciting new dimension to the Museum’s nationally recognised collection of maritime heritage.
