German E-Boat Compass

This compass was once attached to a German Schnell-Boot, literally meaning quick-boat. It was part of the Axis naval fleet that threatened Allied seas. Because of this threat, larger war ships and fortifications needed to be built to counter. In Scotland, Clydebank provided ships, Rosyth provided a port with sea access, and the Forth became littered with military pillboxes and underwater submarine defences. This compass may seem small in comparison, but it represents a threat that prompted a drastic change to the coasts of Scotland.
