Simon Hayhow has been Director of the Scottish Fisheries Museum since December 2007. Prior to this role, Simon was Curator of Natural Sciences for Lancashire County Museums Service for 18 years, having also worked with other museums in Rotherham, Oldham and Plymouth.
Simon loves the variety and challenges of the role. Working with the small team of staff and many dedicated volunteers the Fisheries Museum are proud of their achievements and innovative projects delivered with limited resources. Simon’s favourite success is the creation of the ‘St Ayles Skiff’ and its stimulation in connect people with the sea through Scottish coastal rowing.
Simon’s hobbies include natural history (especially birdwatching, brown hares and studying flies), reading about Charles Darwin and Victorian naturalists, supporting Sheffield Wednesday, finding the Green Man in folklore and architecture and listening to an eclectic taste in music with an extensive collection of vinyl and CDs.
